Our Process

STEP 1

Goals & Inspection

Before beginning the conversion process, TAP consults with our clients to understand their goals, specifications and unique requirements for the material to be processed. Next, our highly experienced team thoroughly inspects incoming truck loads—alerting customers immediately if there are any concerns and helping to identify potential issues with their scrap or dross. At TAP, we are your eyes in the field and want every load to surpass your expectations for success.

STEP 2

Mechanical Separation,
Pre-Treatment & Processing

In order to prepare material for melting, our team determines if crushing, shredding, and/or magnetic separation can be used to effectively remove potential contamination—enhancing the chemical integrity and ensuring the highest aluminum recovery without alloy degradation.

STEP 3

Melting & Casting

Our experienced furnace operators use rotary furnaces to melt aluminum scrap, dross and alloying constituents. A high-quality flux injection purifies and releases aluminum—while Oxy-Fuel Burners promote the highest recovery and melt efficiency. The molten aluminum is cast into 2,000lb low-profile sow molds—otherwise known as RSI or recycled secondary ingots—which are meticulously skimmed and cleaned during the casting process.
STEP 4

Quality Check & Finished Product

Samples are collected during the melting and casting process and analyzed in our lab to ensure the chemical integrity of the finished product. TAP follows industry-best standards for casting and quality assessment based on guidance from the Aluminum Association. The RSI goes through a multi-level quality check process, is securely stored onsite, and audited regularly to comply with internal tracking procedures. Our inventory control systems function to guarantee efficient, reliable, and on-time product delivery to our customers.

Where profit and planet go hand-in-hand

Here at TAP, we believe doing good is good business. Through safe, responsible processing and recycling of aluminum—we are able to drastically reduce waste and infinitely re-use aluminum for beneficial purposes. The byproducts that are leftover after the recycling process (aluminum oxide, spent flux) are diverted to our monofill, Hoover Mason Recycling, and managed using industry best practices.
